England have beaten Australia in an O.D.I. so convincingly that we gained a bonus point! We won the toss, decided to bat first, managed to amass a score of almost 300, and Ed Joyce scored a century.
Then, Australia lost a wicket the very first ball of their innings, and by the end of the second over Australia were 4 for 2. I mean, what's going on. Haven't they read the script? Obviously not. England suddenly remembered that they can actually play cricket, and occasionally they remember they can play well.
Then blow me down if on Saturday England managed to win a game of rugby as well!! What's more England fielded a team that
- Finally included Andy Farrell who was supposedly the answer to all England's problems when he switched codes over a year ago but then has had trouble with injuries.
- Included Jason Robinson who came out of international retirement.
- Had Harry Ellis back at scrum half
- Included a fresh faced fly half who hadn't played for England for over 3 years, only played 40 mins of rugby in the last few months, who scored 27 points (including that very dodgy try, and a drop goal), who played 73 minutes and came through the ordeal relatively unscathed - apart form a few stitches.
- Looked like it knew how to play the game.
You watch, Italy will register their first win against England next week end and New Zealand will dismiss us for the lowest over total in a One Day International and qualify for the best of three final in the Commonwealth Bank Triangular Trophy.
Oh yeah, aren't England playing a football friendly this coming week against Spain?
That's another chance for the nations best to show the world how cr@p we are at playing football and that you need a lot more than white teeth, a nice smile and 'perfect hair' to manage the national side, you actually need someone who knows about football. But then I suppose that expecting your local Bishop to actually believe in God!.
Still, you never know, we can dream of greater things, but will the dreams be sweet or of nightmarish proportions?
